    Upcoming Hurricanes
I'd like to see more damage assessments for hurricanes hitting New York and flooding Manhattan -- something like the 1938 Long Island Express, but aimed a bit more to the west. It's just a matter of time.

    Pantheon Of Leather
This weekend I went to Pantheon of Leather in Chicago.  It was more low key than ABW, but still fun.  The Olympus contest had 9 contestants, so there were a lot of fantasies, which was cool.  But the Mr. Rubber contest was the really fun one.  The M.C. had us laughing.  It's not such a serious contest so they can fool around with it.  They were doing a version of 'The Newlywed Game' that was hilarious.

The next day was the Pantheon of Leather awards ceremony.  Gene Romaine won the northwest category which was really neat.  I was the only one there from Seattle so I accepted the award for him.  It felt really good to be able to do so.  He deserves it.

I was able to bring out 'the ear' as an accessory to my outfit for the awards ceremony.  I got this advise from an O.R. nurse so I felt pretty good about it.  It looked wicked cool with all the black stitches in it.

I've never been to Leather Archives and Museaum before.  When I first walked into the front door, right there by the ticket window was a plaque with 'in
memory of Al D. Souers, Lee Willis and Wes Randall'.  That was a bit of a hit right off.  I still miss Al D.

Reader Survey: Best Tunes to Strip for Your Lover by...
I'm trying to compile a song list... an inspiration list for a class I'm creating...

Tell me some of the best songs for private dancing and stripping for your lover. It would be really helpful to know the artist / song name / album / version or remix. Even your impression of the moves. (like "slow and sensual", "hard grinding", "trashy stripper fantasy", "50's burlesque babe", etc...)
Do you have a link to it where I can listen to it?

    bring it on!

    Another Quick Update
I'm still moving in and unpacking the Fortress of Solitude, and enjoying not having to be so quiet and so constrained about my living situation. Phaedrus continues to improve. I've gotten almost everything I own in one place, and I'm still sorting. This weekend there was ritual with a sword, and another ritual with my fists, and yet another severing ritual with a black tanto I bought just for the occasion.

However, I'll be leaving the mess behind for a week as I go to Colorado, to go hiking and camping and white water rafting down the Royal Gorge/Arkansas river. I'll be training with the Uchideshi in her dojo, and elsewhere.

Worthy of remembering: The litany against fear is an incantation spoken by fictional characters in Frank Herbert's 1965 novel Dune, and its sequels, in order to focus their minds in times of peril. The litany is as follows:

    I must not fear.
    Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
    I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
    Only I will remain.

One of the things I did yesterday, in the Damsel in Distress's own words...
"It's a scary thing to be stranded alongside the freeway in a strange
area with no clue what is wrong with the bike and even less of a clue
what to do about it. I want to publicly thank Ron, Grim and Steve D
    for coming to my rescue.

When it comes to rescuing damsels in distress, these guys are the greatest!

I was on my way to Albany to meet up with my mother for her 89th
birthday. I made it to Ankeny Hill on I-5 south, when the bike just
quit on me for no apparent reason. No sputtering, nothing. Just died
in the left lane at about 75 MPH. I pulled it over alongside the
    freeway and called Ron.

Ron put me in touch with Grim, who came out with his truck and loaded
the Puppy up and took me and the bike back to Salem, where we met up
with Steve D. Transfered the bike to Steve's truck, then headed off to
lunch with my mother and her boyfriend.

Grim got a crisis call and had to head out, so we said goodbye to him ..."

That's karmic payback for Prez Tiny, who rescued my out-of-gas self at Maryhill. *grin*

SF: Volunteers Needed for Folsom exhibit at GLBT Historical Society
If you’re interested in leather community history and you’re in SF, this will be a wonderful opportunity!
If I weren’t in London, I’d help with this. I hope someone can.

    :)

    Last-Minute Volunteers Needed!
The GLBT Historical Society and Folsom Street Fair are producing an exhibit on the 25 years of Folsom's history.
The exhibit is due to open on Thursday, and we need your help to get everything on the walls and ready for the opening! We need people to help hang photos, paint, cut and tape labels, etc.

If you're available, we could use help at any of the following times
    Sunday, July 20 (tomorrow), 9am to 8pm
    Monday, July 21, 5:30pm to 9pm
    Wednesday, July 23, 5:30pm to 9pm

At the GLBT Historical Society, 657 Mission (between New Montgomery and 3rd), Suite 300, SF

If you're available to help out, please call (909-816-5606) or email me (raenforest@gmail.com). Or, you're welcome to stop by, you'll just need to call up to get the door code.

Please pass this along to any friends or lists who might be interested.

And, of course, we'd love to have you at the opening, to see the completed exhibit!
    Thursday, July 24, 6-9pm

    Thanks!!

Thank you... blessings to you all.... arrived in London.. rambling
Thank you for all the support. K and I both need it and we both truly appreciate.

Flight to London was 2 hours late, but I got my upgrade so I got the sleep I so desperately needed in a reclining seat. (which meant that I didn't get the writing and corrospondances done that I needed to but I needed the sleep too.) A couple of rows back an infant was yoweling sounding just like Tigger's pain cries towards the end. My sound reduction headset couldn't shut that out. I'm glad that eventually I fell into an exhausted sleep. They need to develop anti-screaming-child headset... oh and to the older couple next to me - Will the gentleman please give in a get a hearing aid? I counted you saying "what?" to you wife 5 times in one minute. that was just that one minute. oy.

Arrived to my friends' place safely. Settled in. Trying to do normal things like e mail and such. I need to write my article. I have to get up at 6am tomorrow and get to the rope stylist gig for lsgmodels.com across town. I hope the jet lag and mental/emotional/physical exhaustion will work in my favor to get me to sleep tonight.

(Aside: I just realized that Tigger started her passing a half hour before the exact full moon and died exactly an hour after the time of the full moon.)

It's hard to focus at any stretch of time. I need to buck up and focus on work through Tuesday night's big presentation.

I hope K's ok... I hear that the two fur kids are working out their pecking order and power struggle now that the elder-statescat is gone.
